STRONGMAN: Varsity Football’s Ultimate Competition
Looking for something to do this Saturday, June 5, at 2:00 p.m. that will be entertaining, amazing and fun? Then get to the upper field at Horace Greeley High School and watch the varsity football hopefuls go through the torturous and demanding events that comprise the Strongman Competition. It is the first official event of the 2010 Horace Greeley Football Team.
Tire tossing, weight carrying and agility exacting courses will test each and every athlete in various weight classes. Last year the event was spiced up with several members of the New Castle Police Department and it remains to be seen if Head Coach Bill Tribou has a similar type of surprise for this year.
Tribou is excited about the event because “the Strongman marks the real start of the football season. It is here that endurance, mental willpower and physical strength get tested and used for the first time for this year’s squad. We get to see what these guys can do!”
So if you have a promising football player or just want to see fantastic feats of strength, come to Greeley on Saturday and watch the Strongman Competition with many former Greeley players, who wish they could compete, just one more time. Who knows? Maybe they will.
Senior Sports Dinner
The Senior Sports Dinner is on Sunday, June 13, at 5:00 p.m. at the Tarrytown Marriott. The dinner is given by the Horace Greeley Sports Boosters, which is headed by Frank and Beth Francese. It is a night of awards, team spirit and photo highlights produced by Lou Macente. Invitations went out and the RSVP’s are due.
Every year a number of seniors think they will pass up going to this event and then decide at the last minute they want to go. Why? It suddenly dawns on them that it is the very last official sports activity that they can participate in at Greeley.
So those of you senior athletes, who are thinking of not going, do yourself a favor: Decide now to go the dinner with your parents and skip all the anxiety you’ll feel if you first say “Nah, I’m not going,” and then change your mind and wonder if you’re still invited.
