Friday, November 4, 2011

Editor’s Note:  On October 21, NCNOW produced a roundtable discussion with candidates for New Castle supervisor and town board spots.  Reporters from NewCastleNOW.org, Chappaqua-Mt.Kisco Patch and The Examiner met for one hour with the two candidates for supervisor and for an hour with the four candidates for town board to ask them a series of questions.  New Castle Media Center is running the two interview sessions on its website in “video on demand.”  Below are the embedded videos.

Reporters asked questions of the candidates on commercial revitalization, Chappaqua Crossing, sewers, revaluation, town master plan revision, budget and finances, and on the proposed referendum on representation by ward.

Candidates for Supervisor are Susan Carpenter and Bob Kirkwood.

Candidates for town board are Jason Chapin, Rich Diefenbach, Rob Greenstein and Elise Mottel.

Each of the two videos is about an hour in length.

See the candidates in person—including County Legislator candidates Mike Kaplowitz (incumbent) and Terrence Murphy, and the three town justice candidates, Doug Kraus, Kevin Moore and David Zuckerman—on Thursday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Chappaqua Library in the League of Women Voters Candidates Forum.

This is so great, thank you NCNow.  I commend you and the other editors on the format and for the thoughtful and wide ranging questions asked.

I have certainly learned a great deal about the candidates.
Susan Carpenter is splendid.  The Town is indeed fortunate to be able to vote for her.

With 4 candidates running for town board, how many vacancies are there?

Editor’s Note: Two.

It is very disturbing to see Bob Kirkwood’s unawareness or denial of the current news about the NC sewer application.  If he has not done so, or attended that meeting, he needs to watch the video of the October 17,2011 County Meeting on New Castle’s sewer petition.
(The video has been kindly supplied by NCNow on this website.)

The DEP and this County Committee are supporting the NC petition. This is not the time to get adversarial.  Finally, they will help get this long fought for petition approved.  If you withdraw this petition, or try to amend it, it will nullify, or at best delay approval interminably, and we will have to start from square one with no outside support from county legislators and committee members.  We are walking on eggs here.

The town has tried so hard for so long, please do not blunder now out of unawareness or for political reasons.  It could hurt all of us.

We live in an area of New Castle that needs sewers but which is not in the watershed and therefore not included.  But this is a start, a chance to hook up with the main trunk.  Also, those areas in the petition are badly polluting the drinking water.  It needs to be done.

I would plead with Mr. Kirkwood to put aside his partisan interests
for the public interest that concerns us all, both in this town and beyond, all who are dependent on clean drinking water from this crucial supply. And we who live in New Castle are happy to see the breakthrough and real possibility of the areas in the petition hooking up to the county line.

I know that Mr. Kirkwood’s intentions are good, and as an honorable man I call on him to do what is right

Thank you.

“Transparency is a two-way street.”  Rob Greenstein

How can a guy running on a “Transparency in government” party line, not file the legally mandated campaign reports detailing how much he’s raised, from who, and where that money has been spent?

By Transparency is a two-way street on 10/28/2011 at 10:15 am

Greenstein has not raised ANY public funds.  He is funding his campaign himself and said so many times.  Before making accusations, get the facts.

By Ignorance is a one way street on 10/28/2011 at 1:29 pm

@ Transparency is a two-way street,

I believe that Mr. Greenstein has made public the reports you ask for.  Your unfounded accusations really call into question the motives of your misleading comment.

By No problem here on 10/28/2011 at 3:00 pm

I have filed all my reports.  And I appreciate the guidance I have been receiving from some Democrats, and I mean that sincerely.  This is all new to me, and I am a 1 man show.

By Rob Greenstein on 10/28/2011 at 7:42 pm

Mr Greenstein no one is buying your cutesy am a one man show act… Or the i’ll learn it when I get elected.  They time to learn about the job is before you get in NOT after you get in.  Also how could you posibly think the town should entertain and Parking structure at the train station with stores around it.  How does that enchance out lovely hamlet?

By Not buying it Mr Greenstein on 10/31/2011 at 1:37 pm

Hey I would rather hear “I’m not sure” or “I need to learn” than hear the nonsense that Susan Carpenter spewed when asked about the 2% tax cap.  At least Kirkwood gave a thoughtful answer that 2% was unsustainable in the long term without some meaningful change.  All SC said is that “of course we will stay within the 2%”

By Any answer is not necessarily a good answer on 11/01/2011 at 7:48 am

I’m not saying i like what they had to say either…I’m just tired of the whole process when the only time they seem to care is now and where are they the rest of the year

Kirkwood knows what he is doing, and he understands the leverage that favors New Castle.
