Welcome to New Castle’s Weekly Town Meeting!

By Susie Pender
Let’s have a BIG town meeting, hum, where to hold it so that the whole community can come???

To talk about the major issues facing New Castle—gee, how do I find out what the major issues are??  Respectfully share our opinions—oh, how can you have an educated opinion if you don’t have any background information about the issues??  And see if we can form a reasonable consensus to aid our elected and appointed boards ( e.g., school board, the town board, the library board, whomever), in making good decisions embraced by the citizenry.

You are all cordially invited to this community-wide meeting at NewCastleNOW.org starting today!  A primary goal of NewCastleNOW.org is to provide a constant, easily accessible source of information to the community to encourage a habit of participation in local government and community issues and promote civil civic conversation.

Every week NewCastleNOW.org will highlight in feature stories issues pending before the community, be they government based, school based, religion based . . . We invite everyone to write letters to the editor (see our suggestions for format and length at “Letters to the Editor") and share your opinions on these hot topics with your neighbors—even those all the way across town who may see the issue in an entirely different light. All information and opinion pieces that we publish will be archived on the web site so anyone at any time can do some background reading and jump into the conversation with a letter to the editor or an op-ed piece.

But it’s not just about civics.  We will also offer a comprehensive calendar of events, public service announcements, literary commentary, stories from Greeley grads about their exotic life experiences, to name just a few offerings available in this first issue. Indeed, we will offer what you, our citizen journalists, offer to us to print (within reason, of course.) Every week, we are a work-in-progress, looking for new voices to join us in this ground-breaking endeavor.

After reading this first issue, tell us what YOU think at .
