The Friends of the Chappaqua Library are again sponsoring the Annual Young Writers Contest. [Editors’ Note: See the winners of last year’s contest inside.]
The contest is open to all students in grades 6 to 12 residing in the Chappaqua School District. Applications are available at the Chappaqua Library and the English Departments at Horace Greeley, Bell and Seven Bridges Schools. The deadline for submissions is March 3. First, second and third prizes are awarded in each category, at both the middle school and high school levels. High School winners are announced at the Annual Awards Assembly.
Each year three local professional writers volunteer to judge the contest, which consists of three categories: fiction (short story, drama), creative non-fiction (essay, journalism, humor, description) and poetry. Manuscripts must be typed, double-spaced and no more than ten pages in length. All three categories may be entered, but only one submission per category will be accepted. A separate application form is required for each submission and the student’s name may not appear anywhere on the manuscript.
The Friends of the Chappaqua Library looks forward to seeing the creative talents of students in the district who submit their best work and will have the opportunity to be recognized for their artistic efforts.
