The New Castle Democratic Committee announced this morning that Town Administrator Penelle Paderewski will run for supervisor this November.  Incumbent John Buckley will run for one of two Town Board seats, as will Michael Wolfensohn, a former Town Board member.  Sitting Town Justice Noah Sorkin, who was appointed to finish the term of David Zuckerman (now a Westchester County Court judge), will run for Town Justice.

The “Senior Parent/Student Transition Workshop,” scheduled for Thursday, May 23, at 7:00 p.m. in Room K110, seems to remain one of the best-kept secrets in town. It tends to get lost in the hubbub of all the year-end activities, but the fact is that it’s a fantastic experience you and your senior shouldn’t miss.  I had to drag each of my three kids to it, and each time it was more than well worth it. It was great, my kids and I agree.

Monday May 27 is Memorial Day. Join with your neighbors in celebrating, remembering and honoring our soldiers.

The observance of this day will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the laying of a wreath at the Victory Corners Monument at the intersection of King Street and Bedford Road, across from the Chappaqua Fire Department.

We are moving and seek a new home for our beloved dog.  She is a spayed female, raised in a loving environment with children, fully trained and loves all people. She is gentle and protective of the family members and the home.  She is also an energetic companion dog, 45 pounds, and loves walks on or off leash, She swims well, and always comes when called.  All vaccinations are current, and she’s spry
at 10 years.  The North Shore Animal League estimates her life span at 16.  You will not find a gentler companion who responds with adoration to your love and attention.

Chappaqua’s Boy Scout Troop 1, first chartered in 1913, turns 100 years old this year. Troop 1 is among the oldest Boy Scout Troops in Westchester County, and has had many hundreds of Chappaqua area boys among its ranks.  The Troop celebrates its 100th Anniversary with a Centennial Campout and Eagle Scout Court of Honor open to all current and past members of Troop 1 and their families at the Durland Scout Reservation (formerly known as Clear Lake) in Putnam County on June 14, 15 and 16.

After the loss of one dog and attacks on at least two others by coyotes over the past few weeks here in New Castle, I decided to research the relationship between coyotes and humans in an urban/suburban setting.  Gleaning information from municipalities as far north as Canada and across the United States, I have learned a great deal.

For his 23rd year, Dave Fernandes will have upcoming 3rd through 9th grade boys and girls playing and having fun in the Blacktop Basketball Camp at Horace Greeley Gym the week after the end of the school year. The camp, run with the assistance of Greeley basketball players, takes place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 24, through Thursday , June 27. Barbeque lunch each day will be included.
