The annual Senior Athlete Awards Dinner, hosted by the Greeley Sports Boosters, took place on Sunday, June 8 at the Westchester Marriott. One hundred athletes attended with their family members as well as coaches from every varsity sport.

Superintendent Dr. Lyn McKay, Greeley Principal Mr. Robert Rhodes, Class of 2014 Advisors Patrick Dougherty and Jonathan Hirsch, Class Principal Michael Taylor, and Athletic Director Mr. Peter Kuczma were also on hand to celebrate our senior athletes. “The event was a wonderful affair for our graduating seniors.  Each of the coaches spoke eloquently and praised the seniors for their accomplishments.  This was a very nice way to have closure for the athletic career of our seniors,” said Athletic Director, Peter Kuczma.

When asked what Greeley sports has meant to them, overwhelmingly the senior athlete’s responses agreed on commitment, dedication and hard work.  But then they took it a step further, as any great athlete does, and described how athletics and being on a team at Greeley has “made them part of something bigger then themselves.” “It helped them trust and befriend others they may not ordinarily be friends with.” “It taught them responsibility, time management and working with others towards a common goal.” “It taught them pride that comes with success and dignity when dealing with loss.”  These are the lessons they will take with them wherever they go in life.  The last underlying comment expressed by all our athletes was “it made them feel like part of a second family.”  This is the lesson they can always come home to… G-SPORTS…

Special Recognition was given to Pete Zimmerman in appreciation and recognition of his unselfish devotion and service to the Horace Greeley Athletes and the Chappaqua Community. “Peter has supported Horace Greeley Athletics, Greeley Sports Boosters and especially the young community members who are learning to become good citizens through athletics.  If you want a history lesson about Greeley athletics; like the original Greeley Falcon sweatshirt, to look at old films and pictures or have an enjoyable sports conversation, there is one place to go, EZ Sports in town,” said Kuczma.
