MONDAY: Town Board will hold public hearing on grocery plus limited retail at Chappaqua Crossing

The Town Board has scheduled a public hearing for 7:45 p.m., Monday, September 24 on a zoning change to Chappaqua Crossing that would allow limited retail uses in that part of Chappaqua Crossing now zoned for business, office and research.  The proposed zoning would require an anchor grocery store of 50,000 to 60,000 square feet and several ancillary retail stores to occupy a minimum of 5,000 square feet each.

NEW: Crackdown coming to Gedney for dogs breaking on-leash regs

Commissioner of Parks and Recreation Bob Snyder appealed to Town Board members in a Wednesday work session to direct the New Castle Police Department to begin issuing violation tickets to dog owners or dog walkers who are flouting the leash regulations that are posted throughout Gedney Park.  “Three town employees have been bitten in the last five years,” said Snyder. “Ticketing people who aren’t following the rules is the best approach. There is a lack of enforcement of the rules, and without that, the rules don’t mean a thing.”

NEW: Public hearing on Conifer’s Hunts Place affordable housing proposal draws mainly criticism

A late-night public hearing Wednesday on Conifer Realty’s proposal to construct and manage a 36-unit affordable rental apartment building on the .38 acre at Hunts Place, called Chappaqua Station, drew around 40 residents, a dozen of whom commented on the proposal.  The majority were critical of it.

The Horace Greeley High School Class of 1982 will celebrate its 30th reunion on the weekend of October 12-14, 2012, here in Chappaqua. The weekend kicks off on Friday evening at Quaker Hill Tavern for an informal gathering any time after 8:00 p.m. There will be a formal reception and dinner on Saturday night at Mount Kisco Country Club, and on Sunday afternoon we’re having a picnic at Gedney Park in Millwood.

League of Women Voters of New Castle Launches Voter Registration Drive

The League of Women Voters of New Castle is launching an extensive voter registration drive in Westchester in order to engage new voters before the November election. Along with more than 700 other organizations, the League is also participating in National Voter Registration Day on September 25th in both Chappaqua and Millwood (see locations below). The deadline to register to vote in New York State for this November’s election is October 12, 2012.
