With little detail provided on proposal, public reaction is harsh on retail at Chappaqua Xing

Find video of the 80-minute meeting in “Read more…”
September 28, 2012
by Christine Yeres

Monday’s continuation of the public hearing on rezoning to allow a grocery plus additional retail stores at Chappaqua Crossing took place with no visuals and no details beyond the 13-page draft legislation summarized by the town’s attorney, Les Steinman, who read from the draft legislation, a legal document with scant narrative.  Around 25 residents attended the hearing, and those who spoke were quick to fill in the blanks, with the term “strip mall” recurring frequently.

Make a plan to leave leaves alone, let them mulch in place

leaves
Monday, September 24, 2012
by Maxine Margo Rubin

Autumn’s just begun.  Have a talk now with yourself—or your lawn care person—and make a plan to let Mother Nature run her course:  Instead of blowing and bagging leaves, put the leaves raked from your driveway and other areas into the woods and let compost happen!  Or use a mower or mulching attachment that lets the chopped leaves fall in between the blades of grass and disappear into the lawn.

Town board will review master plan for “commercial spine” from Chappaqua Crossing to hamlet

September 28, 2012
by Christine Yeres

In their comments at the public hearing on rezoning for retail at Chappaqua Crossing, several residents noted that Town Board members have promised a review the town’s master plan.  They said that the board was “putting the cart before the horse” in proposing a zoning change now, before looking at the master plan.  Yesterday, NCNOW reached Town Supervisor Susan Carpenter by phone to ask whether—and when—that master plan review would take place.

Open Letter to the Community: Put on our whole-town thinking caps

September 28, 2012
by Chuck Napoli

I wish the town board had waited until they had a picture or a site plan to show us before holding a public hearing on the zoning change at Chappaqua Crossing to allow retail uses.  The confusion and fear that was revealed at Monday night’s hearing means to me that it’s time to have a real conversation about how we can all work together with Chappaqua Crossing to develop their property without hurting our downtown hamlet.  To get this conversation going, here are a few questions that the hearing on Monday night left me—and probably a lot of you—wondering about.
