Next Tuesday, March 22, the New Castle Town Board will hold public hearing on five amendments to town law proposed by Summit Greenfield, the owner-developer of Chappaqua Crossing, the former Reader’s Digest property. These amendments, if adopted, would facilitate its proposed development. The public hearings will begin at 7:45 p.m. and will include opportunity for public comment.

The Library is looking for a community member to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Library Board.  The term is five years, with each member rotating through all the positions, from secretary in the first year to president in the fifth.  The board meets on the second Tuesday of each month, with the exception of August.  In fact, the library board is meeting Monday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m.  It’s a good opportunity to meet the current members of the board and experience one of their meetings.

Last Monday, March 7, Superintendent Jere Hochman of the Bedford Central School District presided over a “Bedford Future Focus” meeting of around 100 parents, teachers, administrators and residents. The very best time to visit the monumental New Croton Dam is after the kind of torrential rains we had last week, which take a long time to work themselves away. And with the sun last Saturday afternoon came several bonus rainbows hovering low in the spray rising from the crashing of the water over the jagged rocks and curved, stepped spillway. Not that those steps are visible right now—it’s all whitewater.
