Statement by Candidate for (and current) Town Justice, Judge Noah Sorkin

October 18, 2013
by Judge Noah Sorkin

After serving as a New Castle Town Prosecutor for five years, I was honored to be appointed as interim Town Justice in December 2012, filling out Judge David Zuckerman’s term after his elevation to the county court.  As your town judge, I have drawn upon my experience as New Castle Town Prosecutor, in addition to many years as a state prosecutor and in-house General Counsel.

It has truly been a privilege to serve the community and, as judge, uphold our Town Court’s reputation for fairness, integrity and efficiency each time I preside over cases on Thursday evenings, conduct weekend arraignments, or seek to resolve civil disputes.

As a practicing attorney for 30 years, and with extensive experience applying state and Town laws to criminal and civil cases, my time as a New Castle judge has been both rewarding and challenging.  I am now hoping to earn the community’s support for a new term this November.

In addition to treating all those who come before the court with fairness and respect, I am committed to ensuring that that cases brought before our court are resolved efficiently and in a timely manner.

I am also looking forward to reintroducing the Town Court Student Internship Program.  As part of this initiative, junior and senior students from Horace Greeley High School will be invited to attend court sessions held weekly on Thursday nights, watch the proceedings, and then meet with me to discuss the proceedings as well as to speak about interesting legal issues.  Details about how to participate in this program have already been provided to the guidance department at Horace Greeley High School.

While I realize that many people don’t necessarily want to find themselves having to appear in court, I have also had several people ask me about the daily activities of our local court.  To that end, I will also be sharing information on the work of our court and am always happy to welcome residents who want to come in and see what we do, ask questions and learn more about the inner workings of local justice.

Thank you, again, for the privilege of allowing me to serve as your Town Judge.

Noah Sorkin

You are an admirable person and the Town would be very fortunate to have you serve as the Town Judge.  I hope the democratic slate does not work against you.  I hope people vote for the candidate and not the party.

Best of luck to you.
