~ from Members of the CCSD Board of Education

On behalf of the Board of Education and the Administration of the Chappaqua Central School District we would like to thank the community for the overwhelming support of this year’s budget.  It is a victory for the students of the district and for education in Chappaqua.  The 82.4% of the voting community’s approval is a record pass rate for a Chappaqua budget.  We believe it is a mandate to preserve and expand educational programs while remaining fiscally responsible to the tax payer.

We would like to thank the entire community but especially those that took the time to vote today, to give us input and feedback at the 8 meetings where the budget was discussed, and to our staff that has recognized through the collective bargaining process that we are partners in pursuit of the finest academic program.  We would also like to thank the PTA for their support and efforts on behalf of the students and the budget.

Congratulations as well to Victoria Tipp and Karen Visser on their reelection to the Board for a second term. Thank you for your commitment to the students of the district and for your willingness to volunteer your time and efforts.

Finally, know that tomorrow begins the process of crafting the next budget.  We are committed to fiscally responsible budgets that have as a basis. sustainability coupled with academic excellence.

On May 20, Chappaqua residents went to the polls and voted to pass both the school budget and library budget for the 2014-2015 school year.

They also re-elected current Board of Education members Victoria Tipp and Karen Visser; and elected Erica Gottesman as a new member of the Chappaqua Library Board.

The Chappaqua Central School District would like to thank everyone for coming out to vote, and for supporting the community’s children and the Chappaqua Library. The 2014-15 budget will help ensure that the District can continue its tradition of excellence.

History of School Budget Voting
~ info on last year’s vote from NCNOW

According to figures from 2002 through 2012 kept by Assistant Superintendent for Business John Chow, the total number of budget votes cast this year—1,244—is slightly higher than last year’s of 1,202.  And at 723, the difference between this year’s Yes and No votes is a 13-year high; last year’s difference was 674, or a 78% approval rate.  [See Chow’s chart below, in “Read more…”]

Chow has kept track in his chart of the number of registered voters within CCSD.  In 2009 there were 11,067; in 2010 there were 10,681; and in 2011 there were 10,849.  No voter registration figure is given for 2012.  Assuming a total of around 11,000 registered voters, tonight’s turnout of 1,244 voters is about 11% of all registered voters.
