Tentative tax roll for New Castle filed Wednesday

On Wednesday, June 1, new Town Assessor Phil Platz filed the tentative roll of assessments for the roughly 6700 properties in New Castle, and, in compliance with state law, that roll is now published online.  Until now, in order to consult the assessment roll residents had two options, both at town hall: view the info either in hard copy or on the computer stationed in the assessor’s office.  Now, all 2668 pages of the roll are online, in pdf form.

Lou Bastone of Chappaqua Paint & Hardware has donated the grill to be raffled to benefit the Horace Greeley Scholarship Fund. Late yesterday afternoon we found Adam Strahl putting the finishing touches on his new ice cream, sandwiches, soup and salad place, “Local,” at 75 South Greeley Avenue. He’d been at it since morning, and for months before.  To a family coming off the Route 120 bridge in a mini-van whose driver hollered, “Hey, when do you open?” Strahl shouted, “This Wednesday! 10 to 8 weekdays, 10 to 10 on weekends!”  “We’ll see you then!” promised the driver.

When you see the bright orange balloons drifting in the cool summer evening breeze this Thursday, they represent opportunity. A number of downtown Chappaqua merchants are staying open every Thursday throughout the month of June until 7:00 p.m. for “Sunset Shopping.” In many instances, 10% of the proceeds from sales during the extended hours will be donated to the Horace Greeley Scholarship Fund, which helps needy seniors finance college expenses.

The New Castle Planning Board held an informal hearing on September 7, 2010, to hear a new application by Gerry Ritterman to subdivide his 60-acre estate, called “The Pinnacle,” at the corner of Lawrence Farms Crossway and Old Roaring Brook Road. Ritterman is applying to subdivide the property into 11 lots for four- and five-bedroom homes. The plan includes demolition of an existing 14,000-square-foot house that has proved difficult to sell.
